Antique Quilt: "Bars" with "Zig Zag"

Pennsylvania, circa 1900-1920. Pieced and applique cotton. Red and white quilts are especially suited to holiday celebrations. This example is in fine condition, probably rarely used. The quilt stitchery, in "Parallel Lines" and "Rope" patterns, is finely done. Found in Pennsylvania, one of the great sources of America's quilts, the bright red cotton, sewn in "Zig-Zag" lines, alternating with solid red bars, offers a festive, playful and very graphic effect.

Air Brush Pottery Pitcher and Bowl. Blue and Cream. In excellent condition. 

Made in Eastern Europe between 1919 and 1930. 

Using a spray-on and stencil technique, designers in Czechoslovakia, Austria and Germany decorated forms such as plates, bowls, canister sets, vases and clocks with outstanding Art Deco designs.

Fall colors!

Fall is almost here! Get ready for the change of seasons by adding some warm, cozy colors to your home. A client asked us if it would be possible to do one of our best selling hooked rug designs, Dallas County, in more primary colors.  Of course we could, and here it is.

An exciting part of creating our own hooked rug collection is that it offers us the opportunity to vary the designs and colorways in an infinite number of ways, just like the traditional rug makers a century ago.  All our rugs are inspired by 19th- and early-20th-Century designs which have stood the test of time.  

Each of our rugs is hand-hooked with hand-dyed fabrics that produce an individual variation, each with a human touch. We can make this or any other rug in our exclusive collection in virtually any size or shape. A round version , shown here, is especially appealing. 

Architectural Digest "Likes" a Woodard & Greenstein Hooked Rug

Woodard & Greenstein's hooked rug collection has  found its way to the dream-like pages of Architectural Digest Magazine this month.  The magazine, under the innovative leadership of Editor-in-Chief Margaret Russell, is leaving no leaf unturned in what's wonderful in home design.

Speaking of leaves, look for Woodard & Greenstein's hooked rug, Riverton, a traditional leaf pattern on Page 169 of the latest issue (September 2013). Fashion designer Lorry Newhouse's Park Avenue duplex is featured, with mixes of the sublime with the even-more-sublime. Collaborating with designer Rain Phillips, Ms. Newhouse created a sophisticated living space that follows no rules, other than to make certain that everything is "gloriously eccentric" - and elegant.   

Our own hooked rug adds a rich warmth to the entrance hall's exposed floor boards, and feels very comfortable with the old hand-painted doors from Italy that open to treasure filled living and dining rooms. Putting together old and new pieces found in the U.S., England, France, and elsewhere, the designers brought the rooms to life with surprising combinations of styles and colors, daring to do the unexpected. Ingenious.

The Fourth of July! A time to celebrate the independence of our country, the greatest in the world. A time when everybody can join the celebration.  

Waiting endlessly for the summer to arrive, and now Boom! Suddenly it's here - and here we are, in the land of opportunity, where truly anything is possible. Strike up the band and let the fireworks begin!  

We have so much to celebrate - the Fourth reminds us of how fortunate we are that our forefathers were so incredibly ...well, awesome!

Labor Day is on it's way

Labor Day weekend is just about here! The perfect time to get out of the city and into the country to enjoy the fresh air, friends and family. A Visit to India

Welcome to the new Woodard & Greenstein blog! For our inaugural post we'd like to share about our recent trip to India. We had a wonderful time - yes, Incredible! - visiting the factory where Woodard Weave and Woodard & Greenstein Hooked Rugs are created, as well as attending the traditional wedding of the daughter of our long-time partner in Mumbai.

It was a real pleasure to see the skilled craftsmanship that goes into each and every one of our rugs, all handmade in every aspect, from the dyeing of the yarn to the weaving of our own designs on traditional hand looms.
